On the 17th of November the Sangha gathered at New Hamlet for community service. This time (like many other times) we were inspired to take care of our mother-earth by joyfully planting tree saplings that were nursed, nurtured and nourished by the monastic and lay siblings.
There are many simple things we can do — like carpooling; no car day; growing our own food; saving energy; recycling; practicing veganism — to express our love and respect to our precious planet. Planting trees is just another way. And, although these may seem very simple (even insignificant) actions, they are very concrete expressions of gratitude. Wholehearted wishes for healing. And actions sprouting out from reverence and love.
We have planted two-hundred trees, nourishing them with siblinghood, water, compost, songs, laughter and happiness. May they grow strong and old to witness the future we choose.
Gathering before the fun. Please plant the trees vertically. I entrust myself to the earth. Compost challenge. Action shot. What is it? Tree transportation service. Compost delivery service. In this baby tree we can see the entire forest and the entire cosmos. A technique called jump digging. We get our joy from the simple things. One casualty. Synchronized efforts. The earth on my hands is also the earth in me. All aboard! The Manyfold Sangha.
