Dharma Talks / Redefining the Four Noble Truths

Thich Nhat Hanh

Hello 🙂 make sure to turn on English subtitles if you need them! 🙏

What are the roots of our personal sufferings and the pains of the world? We bring our mind home to re-examine our sufferings, to find a path. How to act. What we ought to do. What we ought to be.

Join us in reflecting and applying Thay’s 2008-09 teachings on a Buddhist contribution toward a Global Ethic – made available for the first time with English subtitles.

This is the second talk of the series, which the community in Plum Village France watched on the 1st of November 2023. Our teacher originally offered it on 23 November 2008.

11:09: 🕊️ Freedom is achieved through mindful practice and leads to happiness.

20:16: 🚶‍♂️ The practice of walking meditation for peace and happiness.

27:56: ⏳ The key to happiness is dwelling in the present moment.

36:45: 👑 Siddhartha realizes that political power and prestige do not bring peace and happiness, leading him to seek another way out.

44:58: 💔 The video discusses various forms of ill-being in our society, including broken families, divorce, suicide, war, terrorism, and environmental destruction.

53:26: 🧘 The video emphasizes the importance of relaxation and stress management in preventing diseases and promoting well-being.

1:03:45: 💡 The root cause of ill-being is wrong view, leading to fear, violence, war, and terrorism. Right view involves seeing the suffering of others as our own.

1:13:49: 🧘 The video emphasizes the importance of mindfulness and being present in the moment, rather than being consumed by desires for wealth, power, fame, and sex.

1:21:15: 🌱 The video discusses the concept of free will and transformation through mindfulness according to Buddha Shakyamuni.

1:30:25: 🧘 Mindfulness can help interrupt automatic reactions driven by habit energy.
