Ask a Zen Master / Can we Love and Trust Ourselves? (Video)

Love and trust in ourselves form the basis of a healthy relationship with our inner landscape. We do not necessarily have to let external circumstances dictate how we experience life. Please enjoy three answers that our teacher gives on how we can love and trust ourselves and how to have a ‘good’ day.

How do I love myself?

Loving and accepting ourselves is often the basis of loving another. Mindful breathing can be the foundation for loving ourselves. Through mindful breathing we recognize our body as a miracle, we can reconnect with Mother Earth, generate joy for ourselves and see the roots of our suffering.

“Your body is the seat of consciousness …..of the cosmos.”

How can I trust myself?

Have you ever doubted yourself? There is a Zen saying,

“The greater the doubt, the greater the enlightenment”.

Our teacher addresses doubt, cultivating ‘evidence based’ trust, and discovering our inner goodness.

Why are there good days and bad days?

A good day or a bad day does not necessarily depend on the external events that happen to us during the course of the day. A lot depends on how we react to events that occur. Compassion for ourselves and others can also lessen our suffering when something negative happens during the day. Taking care to begin our day in mindfulness and peace, can already help our day be ‘good’.
